Nigeria sack manager Stephen Keshi

Nigeria part company with manager Stephen Keshi after a poor run of results which has seen the Super Eagles drop to third place in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

Stephen Keshi has been sacked as manager of Nigeria following a poor run of results at the helm.

The 52-year-old, who had been in charge of the Super Eagles since 2011, will be replaced by former coach Shuaiby Amodu.

Nigeria exited the World Cup at the last-16 stage this summer, with rumours circulating soon after suggesting that Keshi had resigned from his role, although these claims were soon shot down.

However, following a bad run of results which has seen Nigeria drop to third place in qualification Group A for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the decision was made to relive Keshi of his duties.

"In the interest of Nigeria football and the desire to ensure qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Committee decided to relieve them of their duties with immediate effect," a short statement released by the Nigerian Football Federation read.

Keshi has previously enjoyed spells at Togo and Mali.
