South Africa have confirmed the appointment of Gordon Igesund as their new national team manager on a full-time basis.
The 55-year-old, who had been in caretaker control of Bafana Bafana following the dismissal of Pitso Mosimane last month, was chosen for the post ahead of Steve Komphela after both were interviewed by the National Executive Committee.
"It was not an easy decision as both coaches are well equipped to take Bafana Bafana forward," said SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani.
"At the end of the day, it was a unanimous decision and we think the final verdict was in the best interest of the nation."
Igesund had previously managed Ajax Cape Town, Orlando Pirates, Free State Stars and Moroka Swallows.
He has been handed a two-year contract.
