Diego Maradona wants to fight FIFA corruption

Former Argentina international Diego Maradona says that he wants to fight the "mafia" behind the FIFA scandal.

Argentine footballing legend Diego Maradona has declared that he wants to tackle corruption at FIFA.

The former Barcelona and Napoli star said that he intends to fight the "mafia" behind the recent scandal at the governing body, but is yet to confirm whether he plans to stand as a presidential candidate.

"I have to fight the mafia that still remains inside FIFA. I have to fight those who have for a long time stolen from inside FIFA," he told local TV station America.

When asked whether he wants to be the governing body's next president, Maradona responded ambiguously: "I really want to be in FIFA".

Maradona is a long-term critic of outgoing FIFA head Sepp Blatter, who announced that he was stepping down in June amid the latest bribery scandal.
