Issa Hayatou to serve as acting FIFA president during Sepp Blatter ban

FIFA announces Issa Hayatou will serve as acting president during Sepp Blatter's 90-day suspension.

FIFA has announced that Issa Hayatou will serve as acting president of the world governing body during Sepp Blatter's 90-day suspension.

The Confederation of African Football president, who has been a long-standing vice-president of FIFA, will take charge in the absence of Blatter, who is the subject of a criminal investigation.

The 79-year-old is part of a probe delving into an alleged "disloyal" payment of £1.3m paid to UEFA president Michel Platini in 2011.

Along with Blatter, Platini and FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke have been suspended by the governing body's Ethics Committee.

Now, it has been confirmed that Hayatou, who was reprimanded by the International Olympic Committee in 2011 over bribery allegations, will take Blatter's role for the next three months.

Hayatou was also accused in 2010 by the BBC's Panorama of receiving bribes for World Cup TV rights during the 1990s.
