Five bailed in spot-fixing probe

The NCA confirms that five people are bailed as they investigate alleged spot-fixing in English football.

The National Crime Agency has confirmed that five people have been bailed as they investigate alleged spot-fixing in English football.

A total of six people were taken into police custody over the weekend following a report from The Sun that a game in the Championship had been fixed.

Former Portsmouth defender Sam Sodje was caught on tape by the newspaper saying that he had arranged for a player to receive £30,000 in return for getting a yellow card during a fixture.

Sodje also admitted that he had been paid £70,000 to get a red card in a League One game against Oldham Athletic last season.

Blackburn Rovers confirmed on Monday morning that striker DJ Campbell had been arrested in connection with the allegations.

Meanwhile, Oldham have also announced that winger Cristan Montano was another of those arrested.

Five people involved in the investigation have now been bailed until April 2014, although it is not known who is still being held by police.
