Report: Newcastle United closing in on Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic

Newcastle United are close to sealing deals to sign PSV Eindhoven's Georginio Wijnaldum and Anderlecht's Aleksandar Mitrovic to begin their spending under Steve McClaren.

Newcastle United are reportedly closing in a double swoop to sign Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The PSV Eindhoven midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Magpies as Steve McClaren has pinpointed the 24-year-old as his primary target this summer.

Mitrovic, who plies his trade for Anderlecht, was touted with a switch to Chelsea, but Newcastle are poised to beat the Blues along with other European clubs to sign the 20-year-old.

The Tynesiders are prepared to pay a combined fee of £28m for the duo, paying £16m for Wijnaldum and £12m to the Belgian side for the Serbia international, reports The Telegraph.

Newcastle begin their pre-season against Gateshead on Friday.
