Newcastle United close in on Romain Amalfitano

Newcastle United are on the verge of signing Romain Amalfitano.

Newcastle United are on the verge of completing the signing of Reims midfielder Romain Amalfitano.

Toon boss Alan Pardew has been working on a deal for the 22-year-old for some time now and is hoping to announce his signing soon. It is thought that Amalfitano may have signed a pre-contract agreement with the Magpies earlier this year.

Pardew will be hoping that chief scout Graham Carr will have recruited another gem having previously brought in Yohan Cabaye, Chieck Tiote and Papiss Cisse.

Reports in France say the deal is done and an announcement is expected by the end of the week.

Amalfitano, who has impressed at Reims with his late runs from midfield and eye for a pass, is available on a free transfer.
