Hello, and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the match in the Premier League between Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United.

This time last year, if anyone would have told you that Huddersfield Town would be in the Premier League, you would have given them a disapproving stare, even with the Terriers starting well in the second tier. However, while this is Huddersfield's second game of the campaign, only now will the dream feel real as they host a Premier League game at the John Smith's Stadium for the first time. Huddersfield have staged top-flight games in the past, but nothing like this and it promises to be a fine spectacle.

As for Newcastle, they are also relishing the chance to be back among English football's elite but already, the pressure is on the Magpies to get a result. They were the underdogs against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, but two injuries and a sending off made the defeat feel a lot worse than it actually was and the North-East giants need to find a way to respond in Yorkshire.

Anyway, without further ado, let's take a look at the two teams, starting with Huddersfield.

Huddersfield were not expected to make any alterations for today's game, but head coach David Wagner has opted to make one. The head coach brings in Rajiv va la Parra for Chelsea loanee Kasey Palmer, who drops down to the bench.

It is a different story for Newcastle with Benitez being forced into three alterations due to injuries to Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett and the three-match ban for Jonjo Shelvey. Coming into the team are Chancel Mbemba, Jamaal Lascelles and Mikel Merino, who is on loan from Borussia Dortmund. Recent signing Joselu must make do with a place on the bench.

HEAD TO HEAD! Today's match represents the 63rd time in which these two teams have faced each other in a competitive contest, with Newcastle claiming 26 wins in comparison to 21 victories for Huddersfield. However, there have only been three encounters since 1984, with two of those fixtures coming in the Championship last season. The other came in 2009, when Newcastle prevailed 4-3 in the League Cup with Kevin Nolan scoring the decisive goal with six minutes left.

It means that Newcastle are making just their second ever visit to the John Smith's Stadium, with the other coming in March when they emerged victorious by a 3-1 scoreline. On that occasion, Matt Ritchie, Daryl Murphy and Dwight Gayle all got on the scoresheet for the Magpies. It was a result which took them a step nearer to automatic promotion from the Championship.

This must have been some feeling for Wagner and his Huddersfield players. Since the German's arrival, the club has been transformed from relegation candidates in the Championship to a team who have half a chance of avoid relegation from the top flight, all in less than two years. Wagner's achievement are already phenomenal but if they win this afternoon, they will likely sit in second place in the table at the end of the day.

One new signing who made an immediate impact in an Huddersfield shirt was Steve Mounie. It's fair to say that Wagner has taken somewhat of a punt on a 22-year-old who only netted once in his last nine outings last season - although still leaving him with 15 goals in French football for the campaign - but his double against Crystal Palace has already raised expectations. The Benin international is still learning but he could make himself a legend at the club if more goals are added to his tally both today and throughout the next nine months.

With just over 15 minutes left until kickoff, it's time to talk more about Newcastle. While they lost to Spurs last weekend, all was going swimmingly until the stupidity of Shelvey so we have to take that into consideration when assessing their chances this afternoon. That said, Benitez also lost two defenders and they are sure to face a stiff test with the likes of Mounie, Ince and Van La Parra coming their direction.

It is at the other end of the pitch where they will be hopeful of exploiting Huddersfield. While the Terriers kept a clean sheet last season, they are going to face bigger tasks than an out-of-touch Crystal Palace attack and while Dwight Gayle still needs to establish himself at this level, don't back against him netting this afternoon after the year he enjoyed in front of goal in the Championship. Much has been made of Newcastle's options in the final but they have Aleksandar Mitrovic and Joselu in reserve. On top form, they are more than capable backup.

PREDICTION! Based on last week, we can only predict a win for Huddersfield. Newcastle are likely to offer a response to losing out against Spurs but with the Terriers being backed by their home fans, we fancy them to rise to the occasion and run out 2-1 victors.

The John Smith's Stadium is not packed to the rafters yet because there are still queues outside! The players are ready, however, and those inside the ground are giving them a rapturous welcome.

Huddersfield get us underway.

It's been an excellent start from Newcastle and only a brilliant last-gasp tackle from Jorgensen prevents Perez from getting a low shot on target from inside the penalty area.

SHOT! Huddersfield's first attack sees a cross only half-cleared into the path of Mooy, who drives a low shot towards the bottom corner which is well saved by Elliot.

It is difficult to be critical of the start made by either side, but Huddersfield look a threat every time they come forward. Mooy, Van La Parra and Ince have also began this fixture brightly, and Newcastle are already being forced into plenty of defending.

It will be interesting to see whether Huddersfield can maintain this tempo. They are harassing Newcastle as soon as the visitors have possession and the Magpies are struggling to get out of their own half.

CHANCE! Given the quality of Ince, you would expect him to do better with a shot from 20 yards but his effort is straight at Elliot. The opportunity had been given to him by a stray pass by Atsu.

SAVE! It's fair to say that not many people had heard of Lossl when Huddersfield signed him on loan from Mainz, but that is changing by the game. The Dane has just pulled off a stunning one-handed save to prevent Ritchie's 18-yard shot from finding the bottom corner.

This is developing into an excellent game. Huddersfield respond to nearly falling behind with an inswinging corner from Mooy which seems destined for Mounie, but Elliot just about does enough to put him off when he attempts a header.

Newcastle look confident enough in possession but they are struggling to cope with the pace and strength of Huddersfield's attack. Mounie looks a real threat - that £11.5m fee is looking like a bargain.

When Newcastle do come forward, they are having most joy down the flanks and a good delivery ends up finding Atsu at the back post. However, his header hits the defender and bounces through to Lossl.

Today's referee sent off both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas for strong challenges last week, but he decides that Newcastle's Hayden just warrants a talking to after an arguably stronger challenge (which wins the ball) on Mooy. It is a fair enough call, but it makes you wonder whether it is a reaction to last week rather than being fully confident in his decision just now.

While Huddersfield have been the better side, Newcastle look like they are capable of scoring a goal or two here. Atsu is released down the right and only a well-timed sliding interception prevents the ball from reaching Gayle inside the six-yard box. Gayle also had a shout for a penalty, but the defender won the ball.

BOOKING! This is a naughty one from Ritchie. He has just jumped in studs first on Mooy, who is fortunate to avoid serious injury, in my opinion. It's an even game now, but not a whole lot of goalmouth action.

There will be one minute of added-on time but Huddersfield should perhaps have created a chance to go ahead. Kachunga broke with the ball in a three-on-two situation but not only did he take too much time to pass, his effort to pass to Mounie was under-hit.

The half-time whistle goes at the John Smith's Stadium and remain goalless after a competitive opening 45 minutes. Huddersfield have had the better of the action, but Newcastle created the best chance through Ritchie. This is very evenly poised.

Newcastle get us back underway.

Even at this early stage of the second half, there's already an end-to-end feel to the game. Let's hope that continues! A bit more quality at either end may have resulted in a shot on goal, but nothing came of their respective moves.

What a moment for Huddersfield and for Mooy. The Australian plays a neat exchange with Kachunga before drilling a curling effort into the far corner from just inside the penalty area. It's such a good finish. Huddersfield lead!

SUBSTITUTION! Benitez has seen enough. Joselu has been introduced for his debut, with Gayle making way.

BOOKING! Hayden was fortunate to avoid a caution earlier, but now he goes into the book for a foul on Billing.

The John Smith's Stadium is rocking. The home supporters sense a second. Their side cannot afford to be too gung-ho, but there is an opportunity here.

Huddersfield are very much in control of this match but Newcastle are still dangerous on the counter. The home side need to be careful not to over-play in certain situations and treat this match for what it is.

A wonderful raking ball from Merino finds the run of Manquillo but despite trying to play the ball back across goal, it is far too close to Lossl who claims easily.

BOOKING! Joselu becomes the third Newcastle player to go into the book for his follow-through on Lossl when attempting to close down a clearance.

BOOKING! Two minutes later, Billing is booked for a late lunge towards the touchline.

CHANCES! Atsu is starting to have more of an impact in this game but he does well to set up Joselu, who pokes the ball towards the bottom corner before Lossl tips wide. From the corner, Perez gets the chance to volley on goal from close range but the Spaniard sends his volley high and wide.

SUBSTITUTION! It is time for a Huddersfield change with Colin Quaner replacing Van La Parra.

SUBSTITUTION! A second alteration for Huddersfield, with Kasey Palmer replacing Kachunga. Newcastle are the better team now.

SUBSTITUTION! A second switch for Newcastle now with Mohamed Diame replacing Hayden. Huddersfield have had more of the action since their second change but this game remains competitive in all areas of the pitch. I fancy a second goal, but I'm not sure who it will go to.

BOOKING! Another booking, this time for Palmer who fouls Lascelles. Easy decision for the referee.

SUBSTITUTION! I feel like each of my updates are about substitutions but that is how it has been. Jacob Murphy comes on for his Newcastle debut, with Perez the player to make way. Just the 10 minutes to go now.

The pressure is still coming from Newcastle. All Huddersfield are doing is belting the ball clear and it coming straight back at them. They are trying to see this out rather than score a second.

This is brillaint from Quaner, who helps dispossess Diame before advancing 60 yards up the pitch and earning a corner for his side. He isn't the most skilful of players but his pace and work-rate is causing problems for Newcastle.

BOOKING! This a harsh booking for Mounie, who is adjudged to have led with the elbow on Clark but there is nothing in it.

SHOT! Joselu attempts the most ambitous of volleys from outside of the penalty area but his attempt rolls through to Lossl.

SUBSTITUTION! A final change for Huddersfield sees Michael Hefele brought on for Ince.

The full-time whistle goes at the John Smith's Stadium and Huddersfield have held on for a famous win over Newcastle. They had to fend off some pressure from the visitors, but they were ultimately deserving of their victory, their second in the Premier League in the space of eight days. They now sit second in the table, whereas Newcastle are left without a point and a goal from their first two matches.
