Newcastle United reveal that midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will undergo a scan on a knee injury suffered against Bournemouth at the weekend.

Newcastle United have confirmed that midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will undergo a scan on a knee injury.

The former Liverpool player suffered the blow during last weekend's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes, but the club have now revealed that the midfielder requires a scan to learn the full extent of the damage.

There has been no indication from the Magpies about possible length of absence for Shelvey, who was criticised for his lacklustre performance against the Cherries.

The former Swansea City player has made 23 appearances in all competitions this season, including 16 Premier League starts.
