Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will return to his club early after picking up a thigh injury while on international duty with Brazil.

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has left the Brazil squad early after picking up a thigh injury.

The 24-year-old sustained the problem after joining up with the five-time world champions, missing the first training session with the rest of Tite's squad last week.

The midfielder did not make it off the bench for the 3-0 victory over Ghana on Friday and will now return to Tyneside for assessment.

Guimaraes missed the Magpies' last three Premier League matches with a hamstring injury, and is now a doubt for the trip to Fulham this weekend.

However, the Brazilian has vowed to bounce back from his latest setback, writing on Twitter: "I may be afflicted, but never defeated, I may even cry, I may even suffer. But tomorrow will come and my faith will be rewarded. And my God does not fail, no!"

The news is another blow for Eddie Howe, who also saw Alexander Isak leave Sweden's camp last week and Chris Wood be substituted off for New Zealand with a rib injury after just 33 minutes on Sunday.
