Rafael Benitez: 'Napoli deserved to beat Genoa'

Rafael Benitez believes that Napoli were the "superior" side in their 2-1 victory over Serie A rivals Genoa.

Napoli manager Rafael Benitez has said that his side deserved to beat Genoa in their Serie A match this evening.

A double from Gonzalo Higuain helped the Partenopei to claim a 2-1 victory which moved them up to third place in Serie A.

However, the visitors were left angered by an offside decision for the first goal, before they conceded a controversial penalty in the second half.

"I said many times that I won't talk about referees. If we analyse every incident, I think it's not so easy for Genoa to complain," Benitez told Sky Sport Italia. "We've seen that we can win by scoring two goals with 10 chances. I will say nothing on referees. I like to discuss football.

"I think it was clear that Napoli were superior throughout the game. I saw 10 incidents worth analysing, but I am the Coach in Serie A who discusses referees the least. I only spoke about the officials once this season.

"Clearly I am happy because we won, but the result wasn't enough as we had three or four chances to double our lead and wasted them. Genoa then reacted, but we deserved the victory."

Napoli have now won four of their past five league games.
