Montreal Impact 2-1 Toronto

Montreal Impact claim their first MLS win by beating Toronto 2-1 this afternoon.

Montreal Impact have claimed their first MLS win this season by beating Toronto 2-1 this afternoon.

The home side took the lead after just 18 minutes when Toronto gave the ball away inside their own half. Neagle proceeded to play the ball up to Sinisa Ubiparipovic, who slotted his effort past Kocic.

The visitors were having the lion's share of possession but had to wait until ten minutes before the break for their first chance. It fell to Danny Koevermans, but his point-blank header was somehow saved by Ricketts.

Toronto's day went from bad to worse 20 minutes into the second half when Logan Emory brought down Nyassi when the Montreal man was through on goal, resulting in a red card.

Despite going down to ten men, Toronto continued to look for an equaliser, and almost got it when a deep cross resulted in the Impact's Shavar Thomas clearing the ball off the line.

The Impact finally put the game to bed with just under ten minutes left when Andrew Wenger got on the end of Mapp's ball and slid his effort past Kocic.

The visitors got a consolation goal in stoppage time through a Koevermans header, but Montreal avoided any potential nervy ending and held out to move above Philadelphia Union in the league table.
