Millwall chief executive officer Andy Ambler joins Football Association

Millwall chief executive officer Andy Ambler ends his nine-year association with the club to become the FA's new head of professional game relations.

Millwall have announced that chief executive officer Andy Ambler has left his role to take up a position with the Football Association.

Ambler has spent more than nine years with the Lions, but leaves the League One outfit to take up a newly-created position, being named the FA's head of professional game relations.

The role will see Ambler working with Premier League and English Football League clubs, as well as organisations which represent players, managers and supporters.

"I am honoured to be joining The FA and look forward to helping deliver the new four-year strategic vision through positive engagement and collaboration with the football family," Ambler told the FA's official website.

"I would like to thank the chairman, manager and fans of Millwall Football Club for their support, especially the staff who work tirelessly for the club. I wish them every success for the future."

FA chief executive Martin Glenn added: "I am delighted to be able to welcome someone of Andy's calibre to The FA. We have been strengthening our relationships with the professional leagues and clubs in recent years and his arrival will help to embed a greater level of trust and co-operation with our colleagues from across the game.

"Andy is highly respected and I know he will help us to grow awareness of our work and provide invaluable insight across the business."

In addition to his time with Millwall, Ambler has spent three years on the EFL board, as well as serving on the FA Council and as chairman of the FA Cup committee.
