Newcastle United reportedly plot a £15m swoop for Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who has previously been linked with Liverpool and Barcelona.

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to take advantage of the Ligue 1 financial crisis by swooping for Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

The 21-year-old played a crucial role in Les Olympiens' topsy-turvy 2020-21 campaign, starting 35 Ligue 1 matches and claiming two assists as Marseille ultimately secured Europa League football.

However, Kamara's deal now has under 12 months left to run, and the Frenchman has previously been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona.

Now, The Mirror claims that Newcastle are intending to swoop for the Marseille man, who could be available for a modest figure of £15m given Les Olympiens' dire need for funds.

Jorge Sampaoli's side already have a replacement lined up in the form of Matteo Guendouzi, who has arrived on loan from Arsenal, but Newcastle are fighting an uphill battle to secure the signature of fellow Gunners midfielder Joe Willock permanently.

Kamara - also capable of playing in the heart of defence - has registered three goals and five assists in 122 appearances for Marseille since graduating from their youth academy, and he also boasts nine caps for the France Under-21s.
