Manchester United are reportedly confident of completing a £55m deal for Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld during this summer's transfer window.
Alderweireld is widely expected to leave Spurs ahead of the 2018-19 campaign following a difficult season, and the London club are believed to be keen to sell in this transfer window rather than next summer - when the 29-year-old's contract will activate a £25m release clause.
According to Manchester Evening News, United are prepared to spend £55m in order to push through a deal for a player who was overlooked by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino in the final months of the past season.
Alderweireld, who will represent Belgium at the 2018 World Cup, has made over 100 appearances for Tottenham since joining the London club from Atletico Madrid in 2015.
The Red Devils have also been strongly linked with a move for Chelsea attacker Willian as head coach Jose Mourinho prepares to spend big in a bid to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.
