Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has broken his silence on the conversation held with Jadon Sancho following the winger's return to Carrington last week.

The 24-year-old was excluded from United's first-team squad after a public dispute with Ten Hag arising from the Dutchman's criticism of his training performances, claiming they were sub-par.

Following the incident, the United boss demanded an apology from Sancho, and after refusing to do so, the winger was sent on loan in the latter half of last season to his former club Borussia Dortmund.

The return to Germany seemed to rejuvenate Sancho, with the England international performing admirably in the Champions League, helping BVB reach the final before they were defeated by Real Madrid.

With his loan spell in the Bundesliga ending earlier this summer, the 24-year-old's future has been uncertain, and some reports suggest the Englishman is looking for a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

Ten Hag and Sancho bury the hatchet?

However, it appears that after some time apart, Ten Hag and Sancho are prepared to resolve their differences, easing concerns that the £77m star might pursue a permanent move away from the club for now.

Although Sancho was not part of the group of United players who travelled to Trondheim to face Rosenborg this week, he has returned to training after apparently burying the hatchet with Ten Hag.

The United manager has now provided insight into the discussion held with the winger, confirming they resolved their differences during the talks, although he did not confirm whether Sancho had apologised.

Speaking in an interview with Dutch outlet AD, Ten Hag said: "We spoke well. Anyone can make a mistake. If the player reflects well on that, then draw a line and continue again.

"This club needs good players, and one thing is for sure: Jadon Sancho is a terribly good player. I hope the click will come after all, and that it will contribute to our success."

When asked if Sancho's return to training signifies a fresh start for the winger, Ten Hag responded: "We've drawn the line. We move on."

What's next for Jadon Sancho?

Sancho's current contract with the Red Devils runs until 2026, with the club holding an option to extend that term by a further 12 months.

The England international has been linked with several top clubs this summer, including Serie A giants Juventus, but it now seems increasingly likely that he will remain at Old Trafford for the time being.

His absence from the trip to face Rosenborg was reported to have been because he had begun preparations for the new season later than his teammates, but he is expected to be in line to make an appearance against Rangers at Murrayfield this weekend.

After the trip to Edinburgh, the Red Devils will head to the United States for matches against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.

Sancho and United will then return to Manchester to complete their final preparations ahead of their FA Community Shield clash against cross-town rivals Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on August 10.
