Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly desperate for his club to secure a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes before the start of next month.
Fernandes has been linked with a number of teams since the end of the 2018-19 campaign, including United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
According to Record, the Red Devils are at the head of the queue for the Portugal international and Solskjaer is keen for a deal to be secured before the start of pre-season on July 1.
The report claims that United are not currently prepared to pay Sporting's £62.5m asking price. However, the midfielder's agent Miguel Pinho is due back in England next week to resume talks.
Fernandes was in excellent form for Sporting during the 2018-19 season, scoring 32 times and registering 18 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions.
The Portuguese has a contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade until the summer of 2022.
