Ashley Young has reportedly moved a step closer to signing a new contract with Manchester United.
It was suggested that Young would rarely be involved when Louis van Gaal arrived last summer, but he has rediscovered his best form under the Dutchman and played a key role in a number of different positions this season.
The 29-year-old's performances persuaded the club to begin contract talks a few months ago, and The Mirror claims that the extension will be confirmed next month.
Despite looking set to commit his future to the club, Young, who joined the club from Aston Villa in 2011, is likely to face an even tougher battle to prove himself next season following the signing of Memphis Depay.
Young was also believed to be close to an England recalls before injury prevented him from earning a spot in Roy Hodgson's squad for the matches against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.
