A report claims that Newcastle United showed an interest in signing left-back Luke Shaw from Manchester United, only to be put off by his £20m valuation.

Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to turn their attention elsewhere after being quoted a figure of £20m for Manchester United defender Luke Shaw.

The Magpies are said to be in the market for a left-back in the January window, potentially boosted by a cash windfall should a proposed takeover go through.

Toon boss Rafael Benitez targeted England international Shaw, who has fallen massively out of favour at Old Trafford this term, having made just two appearances from the bench so far - both in the EFL Cup.

According to The Sun, however, the Red Devils are unwilling to offload the 22-year-old on loan and instead want to receive at least £20m for a player that cost them £27m three-and-a-half years ago.

The publication suggests that Newcastle do not currently have the funds to push ahead with a transfer, forcing them to look elsewhere for another option.
