Newcastle United reportedly remain ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer.

Newcastle United are reportedly leading Manchester United in the race to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

Despite his frequent injury issues, Dembele having less than seven months remaining on his contract has led to strong interest in his services.

While Barcelona are doing everything possible to tie the 24-year-old down to a new deal, the player can speak to foreign clubs in January.

According to reports in Spain, Newcastle and Man United are among the clubs who may be prepared to edge out the Catalan giants at the negotiating table.

Barcelona, who are known to be struggling financially, are said to have offered Dembele a contract worth £9.4m per year to remain at Camp Nou.

Nevertheless, it appears that Newcastle, backed by their new owners, are willing to pay considerably more money to secure Dembele's services.
