Manchester United allegedly become the latest Premier League club to identify a versatile Premier League attacker as a summer transfer target.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has allegedly been identified as a potential summer transfer target by Manchester United.

The Brazil international has enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 campaign at Molineux, contributing 13 goals and four assists from 26 appearances.

However, despite his partial retraction of recent comments made regarding his future, it is common knowledge that Cunha is interested in a move away from Wolves.

A release clause allegedly in the region of £62.5m is said to be present in his recently-signed new contract, a sign that a parting of the ways could be in the offing.

Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have each been linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent months, yet it appears they are about to face extra competition.

Man United add Cunha to shortlist?

According to talkSPORT, United officials are interested in winning the race for Cunha's signature over the coming months.

The report claims that Cunha's agent is due to travel to England in order to hold discussions with interested clubs ahead of the summer market.

Furthermore, Cunha is said to hold a preference of representing a "top-six" Premier League team over a perceived smaller club such as Nottingham Forest who are bidding for Champions League qualification.

There is a perception that Cunha could be the ideal fit for Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation at Old Trafford, the player realistically viewed as someone who can play in one of two attacking-midfield roles behind a central striker.

When fit or not suspended, that is generally where he has been used by Wolves boss Vitor Pereira, but it remains to be seen where Cunha stands in the pecking order as a result of Wolves collecting 10 points from four games in his recent absence.

Who has the advantage?

Although Forest are seemingly in the mix, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the East Midlands outfit are very much the outsiders.

Arsenal have to be considered as favourites at this stage. Not only will they highly likely to be able to offer Champions League football, Andrea Berta - the man who signed Cunha for Atletico Madrid earlier in his career - is now with the Gunners.

While Cunha would become a certain starter at United should he move to the Theatre of Dreams, it is questionable whether they can afford him at this stage.

Being able to cash in on the likes of Antony and Marcus Rashford would help United in that regard, Betis known to want the former and Aston Villa having the option to sign the latter for £40m.
