Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha takes to social media to address comments that he made regarding his future in a recent interview.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has taken to social media to declare his immediate commitment to the Premier League club.

Speculation regarding the future of the Brazil international seemed in line to quieten down upon penning a new contract in February.

Instead, reports of a £62.5m release clause and Cunha currently serving a second suspension of the season for petulance has kept his name in the headlines.

Over the weekend, he did not help his own cause with an interview being given to The Guardian where the 25-year-old reiterated his desire to 'fight for titles'.

Cunha acknowledged that thought would be given to exiting Molineux during the summer transfer window, comments made when Wolves remain very much in a Premier League relegation battle.

What has Cunha responded?

At a pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday's encounter with West Ham United, head coach Vitor Pereira attempted to play down the significance of Cunha's words.

However, soon after that media briefing came to a conclusion, Cunha posted a 59-second video on his Instagram account to claim that there had been a 'misinterpretation' of his comments.

Will that be the end of the matter?

With two matches remaining of a four-game ban, Cunha will not come back into contention until a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on April 13.

Theoretically, that provides time for the situation to calm down before supporters have their chance to express their feelings - good or bad - towards the versatile attacker.

Nevertheless, it appears to be a foregone conclusion that Cunha will be sold later in 2025 providing that a club pays his release clause, or at least close to it.

That will be deemed acceptable by most Wolves fans providing that Cunha performs to his usual high standard during the run-in as the West Midlands outfit bid to remain in the Premier League.

Cunha will be expected to add to his 13 goals and four assists in the top flight as Wolves look to defend their nine-point advantage over Ipswich Town and Leicester City.
