Agent Jorge Mendes is reportedly trying hard to convince Manchester United to lodge a late bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The 24-year-old has been keen to leave the Portuguese side this summer and has been courted by both United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
Neither side has met Sporting's firm valuation of £65m, however, and despite Mendes's best efforts, the club have refused to lower their asking price.
Earlier today it was reported that United and Spurs had both admitted defeat over the Portugal international, but according to Correio da Manha, Mendes is "working" on convincing United to submit a fresh offer in the remaining hours of the transfer window.
A frustrated Fernandes is said to have met with Sporting chiefs twice in recent weeks to try to push through a move and left the pitch in tears during a pre-season friendly game at the end of last month.
Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the former Udinese player, who has four years remaining on his current contract with Sporting.
