Manchester United are reportedly considering a swoop for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Reports have claimed that the Premier League champions will have cash to spend in the winter following their lack of activity in the summer window.
The North-West outfit could only make one major signing, in the form of Marouane Fellaini from Everton for a reported £27m fee.
According to the Daily Star, United will target Bender, as well as Everton full-back Leighton Baines and Atletico Bilbao's Ander Herrera, both of whom manager David Moyes failed to sign in the summer.
Despite reports that United are keen to add Bender to their ranks, Leverkusen general manager Michael Reschke has insisted that the player is not for sale.
United have lost three of their first six games of the Premier League season.
