Manchester United are open to Jesse Lingard leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis this month, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly open to Jesse Lingard leaving Old Trafford on a permanent basis during the January transfer window.

The England international's contract with the Red Devils is due to expire in June, and he is unlikely to be signing an extension, having struggled for regular football this season.

Newcastle United are said to be keen on a loan deal for the 29-year-old this month, but Man United have allegedly rejected an approach from the Magpies.

According to Sky Sports News, the Red Devils would prefer Lingard to leave on a permanent basis this month rather than on loan and then depart on a free transfer at the end of his contract.

The report claims that the Englishman would be open to discussing a permanent move to Newcastle, who are expected to be extremely active before the end of the winter window, as they bid to put together a squad capable of avoiding relegation to the Championship.

Lingard has scored twice and registered one assist in 14 appearances for Man United this season, including a goal against Newcastle in the league back in September.
