Manchester United football director John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold are allegedly attempting to de-escalate the situation between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United football director John Murtough and CEO Richard Arnold are reportedly both involved in attempting to de-escalate the situation between head coach Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.

The 23-year-old was a notable absentee from the squad that was involved in the clash with Arsenal before the international break, with Ten Hag revealing during his post-match press conference that the forward had not been selected due to some poor performances in training.

Sancho took to social media to deny the claims, and there is now believed to be serious tension between the two individuals.

The Englishman was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League ahead of the division's transfer deadline last week, but a potential move to Al Ettifaq fell through.

Sancho is believed to have held face-to-face talks with Ten Hag earlier this week, but there remains a host of speculation surrounding his future, with an exit in January thought to be possible.

The forward has at least removed the statement that he posted on social media, fuelling suggestions that the pair's relationship is potentially moving in the right direction.

However, it is still unclear whether Sancho will be selected for Saturday's Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag is expected to be asked about the situation during his press conference on Friday, when he could give an indication of whether the former Manchester City youngster will be involved against the Seagulls.

According to the Daily Mail, Man United football director Murtough and CEO Arnold are both heavily involved in the dispute, with the pair looking to cool the situation.

Murtough is said to be taking an active role, with senior figures at the club working to rebuild the relationship between the head coach and his player.

Ten Hag is believed to have placed Sancho on a different schedule to the rest of the players at the club due to the forward's issues when it comes to timekeeping.

Man United are believed to have been open to offers for the attacker during the summer, but there is not thought to have been a serious bid made for the Englishman.

Sancho has found it difficult to make his mark for the 20-time English champions since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, only managing 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances in all competitions.
