Manchester United have reportedly informed Real Madrid that they would want Toni Kroos as part of any potential deal for Paul Pogba in the January transfer window.
Madrid were strongly linked with Pogba during the summer, but the Spanish champions were unable to agree a price with the 20-time English champions.
According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, Los Blancos will 'try again' for the 2018 World Cup winner in January, and Kroos could be the key to the deal taking place.
Inda has claimed that the Red Devils tried to sign the Germany international during the summer, offering £67m for the 29-year-old, who signed a new long-term deal at the Bernabeu in May.
"[Zinedine] Zidane has an obsession, which is still Pogba," Inda told El Chiringuito TV. "The French coach is a person of fixed ideas and insists on Paul. They will try in January and there have already been the first contacts with United.
"In the conversations that still exist between emissaries from Madrid and United, a name has been put: Toni Kroos. United tried to sign Toni Kroos this summer. For him they offered this summer €75m (£67m) and that caused its renewal with the white team."
Both Madrid and United have struggled for results and performances at the start of the 2019-20 campaign.
