Federico Macheda: Doncaster Rovers "really wanted me"

Federico Macheda praises Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov for having belief in his ability.

Federico Macheda has praised Doncaster Rovers for the desire that they showed to sign him.

The Italian joined Rovers on an initial one-month loan deal and has gone on to score three goals from as many outings for the Championship outfit.

Reflecting on the move, the Manchester United frontman has revealed that he signed on at the Keepmoat Stadium because manager Paul Dickov showed the greater interest in his services.

"I went to Doncaster because they were probably the team that really wanted me. If I didn't go to other clubs, it was because they wanted me but they weren't sure about me," he told the Yorkshire Post. "I came to Rovers because the manager really wanted me and I am happy to have made that choice."

Macheda, who scored the winning goal against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, has also confirmed that he had the opportunity to join the Owls.

"I did, but it's not my fault if I didn't come here. Maybe there has been some problems, I don't know. Maybe they didn't really want me, as Doncaster did," he added. "Maybe they weren't so sure about me. I went to Doncaster because they really wanted me."

The 22-year-old's contract with Premier League champions United is due to expire next summer.
