Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes that Sir Alex Ferguson could sell Wayne Rooney this summer if the right offer is tabled for the England striker.

Mark Lawrenson believes that Wayne Rooney could leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

The England forward's future has been subject to speculation recently, and the former Liverpool defender thinks that a sufficient offer for the striker could see United manager Sir Alex Ferguson willing to do business.

"If someone were to offer him £25m in the summer, I think Rooney could go," Lawrenson said in his column in The Mirror.

"In terms of the timing of when players leave Sir Alex very rarely gets it wrong.
I can't really remember anybody that has come back to haunt him."

Rooney signed for the Red Devils for £30m from Everton in 2004.
