Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann is reportedly demanding wages of £400,000 a week to join Manchester United ahead of Barcelona.
The 26-year-old was understood to be closing in on a move to Old Trafford last summer, only to perform a U-turn and decide to stay in the Spanish capital after Atletico saw their transfer ban upheld.
United instead signed Romelu Lukaku, but they have retained an interest in Griezmann and are thought to be exploring the possibility of a January move for the France international following Diego Costa's return to Atletico.
Barcelona are still considered the frontrunners to land Griezmann, but their £146m signature of Philippe Coutinho means that a January move is impossible and a summer switch could also be unlikely.
The player himself prefers to stay in Spain, but reports have now claimed that he would consider moving to Old Trafford if he were offered £400,000 a week in wages, which would make him the highest-paid player in the division.
United have reportedly offered the Frenchman wages of £290,000 a week at this stage, but Griezmann is holding out for an even more lucrative deal.
Griezmann's release clause currently stands at €200m (£177.2m), although that will halve to €100m (£88.6m) on July 1.
