Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly expected to reject any approach to sign for Manchester United.

Manchester United have reportedly been dealt a blow in their efforts to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that incoming United manager Erik ten Hag had identified De Jong as one of his priority transfer targets.

As well as the pair having previously worked together at Ajax, speculation persists that Barcelona are open to cashing in on the Netherlands international with Franck Kessie said to be joining from AC Milan.

However, according to the Daily Star, De Jong is not in any rush to leave Camp Nou, particularly to a club which will not be competing in the Champions League next season.

The report claims that the 25-year-old remains confident of eventually winning over Xavi having continued to hold down a regular spot in Barcelona's midfield.

Barcelona have allegedly priced De Jong at £64m, an asking price that United are said to be willing to pay given their ongoing issues in the centre of the pitch.
