Erik ten Hag coy on Jadon Sancho future amid Borussia Dortmund interest

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that he has "no news" on a possible departure for Jadon Sancho during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old has not featured for the Red Devils since appearing off the bench in their 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at the end of August.

Sancho was a notable absentee from the squad against Arsenal on September 3, and Ten Hag said after the match that poor performances in training had led to him being left out.

The ex-Manchester City youngster disputed that in a post on social media, claiming that he had been made "a scapegoat", and the relationship between Sancho and Ten Hag has broken down.

Initially, it had been thought that an apology from the forward would see him brought back into the first-team picture, but it is believed that too much time has now passed, and both parties are keen to cut ties during the January transfer window.

A permanent exit for Sancho this month is seen as highly unlikely, as Man United are not believed to be willing to accept a cut-price fee for a player who has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2026.

However, he is seemingly set to leave on loan, and a recent report claimed that Borussia Dortmund were closing in on an agreement to bring him back to the club.

Ten Hag was questioned on the situation during his press conference on Thursday but insisted that there was "no news" regarding a departure for the Englishman.

"I can't say anything about that. We have to wait and see how things are going. When we have news, we will tell you. I can't say anything about this subject because there is no news," Ten Hag told reporters.

Sancho has also been linked with Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Stuttgart this month, but he is believed to be pushing for a return to Dortmund.

The attacker represented BVB between 2017 and 2021, scoring 50 goals and registering 64 assists in 137 appearances in all competitions during the most successful period of his career.

Sancho made a big-money move to Man United in the summer of 2021, but he has largely struggled to find his best form at Old Trafford, only managing 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances in all competitions.

Dortmund are believed to be prepared to pay a loan fee and take on some of the forward's salary in order to re-sign him during the winter market.

Man United have already allowed one player to leave on loan this month, with Donny van de Beek heading to Eintracht Frankfurt, while Sergio Reguilon has returned to Tottenham Hotspur following a short loan spell at Old Trafford.
