Manchester United have reportedly considered offloading Dimitar Berbatov to Tottenham Hotspur in an attempt to sign midfielder Luka Modric.
It has been widely reported that the Bulgarian is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season due to a lack of first-team opportunities.
It is believed that the English champions are willing to extend the striker's contract and use him in a swap deal for Modric in order to prevent Berbatov from leaving on a free transfer in the summer, according to Goal.com.
Tottenham are thought to be looking at a bid in the region of £40m for the Croatian playmaker but may be open to an exchange including their former frontman.
Berbatov made the switch to the North West from White Hart Lane for a record £30.8m in 2008.
