Thomas Tuchel is reportedly willing to consider a return to Chelsea, with the Blues hierarchy admitting that they made a 'mistake' firing the German in September 2022.

Thomas Tuchel is reportedly prepared to consider a return to Chelsea ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The 50-year-old is currently employed by German giants Bayern Munich but it has been confirmed that he will leave his role at the conclusion of the campaign.

Bayern have endured a troublesome season under the former Chelsea boss, sitting second in the Bundesliga standings, 10 points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

With the Bavarians seemingly set to hand over the German league title for the first time since 2012, the 3-0 success over Lazio in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night was particularly vital.

According to German outlet Bild, Tuchel would consider returning to Stamford Bridge during the summer, after leaving his post at the Allianz Arena.

The report claims that the Chelsea hierarchy have realised that they may have make a 'mistake' firing the German coach in the early stages of the 2022-23 season.

American owner Todd Boehly decided to part ways with Tuchel after just four months of being at the club, replacing the 50-year-old with Graham Potter.

The ex-Brighton & Hove Albion man lasted just seven months in West London, before club legend Frank Lampard guided the Blues through until the end of the term.

Mauricio Pochettino was brought in ahead of the current season but has been unable to turn Chelsea's fortunes around in terms of league position.

After last weekend's 2-2 draw at London rivals Brentford, the Blues are languishing in 11th position in the top-flight standings, six points behind seventh-placed West Ham United.

Despite murmurs of a possible return to Stamford Bridge, it is understood that Manchester United is the dream destination of Tuchel in the Premier League.

Since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as minority owner at Old Trafford, there have been serious doubts over whether Erik ten Hag will remain as head coach past the end of the season.

Running out of opportunities to close the gap to Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen, Tuchel and Bayern will be aiming for three points against relegation-threatened Mainz in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
