Louis van Gaal: 'No reason to sack me'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal claims that there is "no reason" for the club to sack him despite an eighth consecutive match without victory.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that there is "no reason" for the club's hierarchy to sack him.

The Red Devils have been eliminated from the Champions League and dropped five points behind in the top-four race during an eight-match winless streak which continued with a goalless draw against Chelsea this evening.

Van Gaal's future has come under intense scrutiny as a result, but after insisting that he will not resign from his role following an improved performance against Chelsea, the Dutchman stressed that he can turn things around within the next month.

"We have forced the luck and still we didn't score and that is unbelievable when you see what happens today. I am frustrated," he told BBC Sport.

"I thank my players for the performance but we need a victory. It gives a lot of hope for the fans. My relationship with players, board and staff members is very good. There is no reason to sack me.

"The results are not good enough. I know that, the players and board know that. It can be different in about one month."

United hit the woodwork twice in the first half against Chelsea but were ultimately unable to find a breakthrough.
