Gus Poyet: 'Evra cries like a baby'

Gus Poyet says that Patrice Evra 'cried like a baby' after he was allegedly racially abused by Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

Brighton manager Gus Poyet has defended his fellow Uruguayan Luis Suarez over the recent racism row with Patrice Evra.

The Liverpool striker has been charged by the FA over the alleged racist comments he made to the Manchester United defender during a match last month.

However, Poyet has claimed that Evra overreacted to the incident by "crying like a baby".

"I played for seven years in Spain and was called everything because I was from South America," he said. "And I never went out crying like a baby, like Patrice Evra, saying that someone said something to me.

"I believe Suarez. It's simple, I am surprised in a really sad way that he has been charged.

"I think it is worse to charge someone because you trust one person when you have no proof."

Suarez is expected to appeal the charge and request a personal hearing.
