Manchester United slumped to their first defeat on their pre-season tour of the USA following a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in Chicago.

First-half goals from Blaise Matuidi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic proved enough as the Red Devils now return to England on the back of a defeat.

Goal

David de Gea: Could have perhaps been a little braver to prevent the first goal. Also nutmegged for the second. Subbed at the break. (5/10)

Defence

Matteo Darmian: Probably United's best player on the day and of the tour in general. Solid in both areas of the field and undoubtedly the pick of their summer signings this morning. (7/10)

Phil Jones: Arguably the primary culprit of PSG's opening two goals. Nowhere near his best form. (4/10)

Daley Blind: Bizarrely, looked more comfortable than centre-back partner Jones despite being in an unfamiliar role. (6/10)

Luke Shaw: Got forward brilliantly at times but his final ball was lacking. (5/10)

Midfield

Michael Carrick: Successfully executed the Hollywood ball on a number of occasions but United needed something a little more penetrative. (5/10)

Bastian Schweinsteiger: Fired some exquisite long-range passes but overall not as influential as he had been in recent pre-season outings. (5/10)

Juan Mata: Had a goal ruled out for offside in the first half. He was seldom seen before or after this. (4/10)

Ashley Young: Endured an anonymous first 45 minutes before being subbed off for Andreas Pereira. Was never at the races this morning. (4/10)

Memphis Depay: Continued to struggle in a central role. Had United's best chance of the match but fluffed his lines with a first-time effort. Unconvincing. (4/10)

Attack

Wayne Rooney: Like so many of his teammates, failed to turn up this morning. Also looked slightly fatigued. (4/10)

Substitutes

Andreas Pereira: Replaced Young at the break but the youngster was unable to make much of a difference and enhance his burgeoning reputation. Still, encouraging tour overall. (4/10)

Sam Johnstone: Had very little to do by way of stopping shots, but still managed to command his area slightly better than De Gea had done. (6/10)

Goal

Kevin Trapp: Only had one real save to make throughout the 90 minutes when he pushed Memphis's free kick away in the first half. Very little to do overall. (6/10)

Defence

Gregory van der Wiel: Kept the often-lethal Young on a short leash, allowing the winger little to no opportunities to dazzle. Replaced by Digne at the break. (6/10)

Serge Aurier: The right-back looked relatively uncomfortable in an unfamiliar central defensive role. (5/10)

Thiago Silva: Best player on the pitch; producing a professional performance to suggest that the word 'friendly' isn't among his vocabulary. (8/10)

Maxwell: Kept Mata on a short leash and always looked a menace going forward. Also bagged a wonderful assist for Ibrahimovic's goal. (6/10)

Midfield

Marco Verratti: Passed the ball well along the deck but played one too many over-the-top balls that invariably resulted in goal kicks. (5/10)

Blaise Matiudi: Showed brilliant determination to out-pace Jones in the build-up to his 25th-minute opener. (7/10)

Benjamin Stambouli: The victim of a number of hard-hitting challenges, Stambouli was negated for much of his 70 minutes on the field. (5/10)

Attack

Lucas Moura: Bagged an assist for the opener, but could have had several more if his final ball was a little better. Mixed bag. (6/10)

Jean-Kevin Augustin: Failed to enhance his burgeoning reputation with a modest display. Subbed at half-time. (5/10)

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Lethargic and lethal in equal doses. Tidy finish for PSG's second goal, but could have had a hat-trick. (6/10)

Substitutes

Youssouf Sabaly: Could, and definitely should, have added a third but blazed well wide from a good position. (5/10)
