Ashley Young: 'Manchester United season could have been different'

Young unhappy with Man United season

Ashley Young is not pleased with how Manchester United have done this season, citing their need for consistency against the smaller teams in the Premier League.

Ashley Young has been left unimpressed by Manchester United's season and believes that the Red Devils have a lot of room for improvement next term.

Man United need just four more points from their last three Premier League games to seal second place in the table and will face Chelsea in the FA Cup final later this month.

However, Jose Mourinho's charges have been little match for rivals Manchester City throughout the course of the season, losing to the likes of Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion.

"It has been one of those seasons when around Christmas we were drawing games, late goals against us, and when you look back at those kind of games then you think the season could have been different," Young told ESPN.

"It wasn't meant to be but we have put down a marker against the top-four, top-six clubs, but it is more than that. We have to win at other clubs as well. We have to win more games than we have done.

"It has been one of those seasons. If we can finish with the number of points we know we can then it is a different season and that points total that would have won us the league but it is not to be. We have to keep the momentum now."

Man United wrap up their league programme with games against Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and Watford.
