Wayne Rooney: 'Our coach was smashed up'

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says that his team's coach was "smashed up" en route to Upton Park for their Premier League fixture with West Ham United.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has confirmed that his team's coach was attacked on the way to Upton Park for their Premier League encounter with West Ham United.

United endured issues in arriving at the stadium in East London and that has resulted in kickoff being delayed until 8.30pm, but images soon emerged on social media of damage that had seemingly been inflicted to the visitors' coach.

After arriving at the ground, the United skipper told Sky Sports News that the vehicle had been "smashed up" ahead of what is a crucial fixture for both sides as they target a place in Europe next season.

The 30-year-old said: "It wasn't nice. The coach got smashed up, but we're here now, so have to prepare for the game and go out and do our job.

"I'm sure you'll see the images. That's not for me to say, but I think it was disappointing of course. We know it's a big game for West Ham, big night for them, leaving the stadium, but I'm sure West Ham as a club will be disappointed with what the fans have done."

United hold a four-point advantage over West Ham in the standings with two games remaining.
