Louis van Gaal to begin Manchester United reign today

Louis van Gaal will begin his reign as Manchester United's new manager today as he is expected to arrive at the club's Carrington training base.

Manchester United's new era under manager Louis van Gaal will begin today.

The Dutchman is expected to arrive at the club's Carrington training ground this morning to delve into the Red Devils' pre-season preparations.

Van Gaal opted against taking a break after the World Cup in Brazil, where he guided the Netherlands to the semi-finals and a third-place playoff victory over the hosts last Saturday.

The 62-year-old, who replaced David Moyes at the helm after the Scotsman was sacked less than 10 months into his reign as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor, is expected to hold his first press conference as United manager tomorrow, according to Sky Sports News.

Van Gaal will be tasked with improving on United's last campaign, which resulted in the former English champions finishing seventh in the Premier League table.

United have been linked with numerous players, including Arturo Vidal and Mats Hummels, but they have already secured the signatures of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer.
