Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal hails his team's performance in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Stoke City in the Premier League.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has paid tribute to his players for their strong performance in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Stoke City.

The spotlight was once again on Van Gaal as his team looked to respond from a home defeat to Southampton last time out.

Goals from Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney made it a comfortable night for the Red Devils and Van Gaal has branded the performance "very good".

"It was a great first half, we scored fantastic goals and we created more chances above that. In the second we controlled the game, scored the third goal. It was very good," Van Gaal told Sky Sports News.

"I think in 2016 we have only lost against Southampton in the last minute. We have more confidence maybe.

"I cannot say we now have more confidence because we lost to Southampton at home and that can never be. At home you have to win but I hope it gives us motivation to continue because in Derby we played very well also. Three goals eh? In a row!"

Man United are still fifth in the Premier League table, five points off fourth-placed Arsenal.
