Louis van Gaal hints at debut appearance for Anthony Martial against Liverpool

Louis van Gaal hints that Anthony Martial could make his Manchester United debut against Liverpool as a substitute on Saturday evening.

Louis van Gaal has hinted that Anthony Martial could make his debut as a substitute for Manchester United against Liverpool.

Martial, who completed his move to the Red Devils on deadline day, will be named in the squad to face one of the club's fiercest rivals.

However, the United manager insists that it is too soon to start the youngster but suggests that he could make a substitute appearance against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Star, the Dutch manager was asked whether it was likely Martial would make an appearance, which Van Gaal replied: "Of course, that's why he is on the bench.

"We have to build him up and he has to play also at Old Trafford because it's an impressive stadium with impressive fans.

"Now he has seen how we do our preparation so he has a lot of impressions so I don't think it is wise to line him up so that's the reason but it was possible today because Wayne [Rooney] was injured but I think Felli [Marouane Fellaini] can do the job."

Marouane Fellaini was named as the lone starting striker against Liverpool, while Martial starts on the bench.
