Phil Thompson backs Manchester United to retain title

Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson believes that Manchester United will retain the Premier League title this season.

Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has backed Manchester United to retain the Premier League title this season.

United, who stormed to the league crown last season, have not heavily invested in their squad this summer, but Thompson believes that David Moyes will secure the title in his first year in charge.

"If you were to ask me at this particular moment, I would have to say Manchester United. They've been there, seen it and done it and they haven't lost anybody at this moment in time," he told Sky Sports News.

United open their league campaign away to Swansea City on August 17.
