Marco Silva: 'Marcos Rojo should have been dismissed'

Marco Silva questions Jon Moss after the referee decided against showing Marcos Rojo a second yellow in Watford's 4-2 defeat to Manchester United.

Watford manager Marco Silva has claimed that Manchester United got a lucky escape during Tuesday evening's meeting at Vicarage Road, as Marcos Rojo deserved to be shown a red card.

The 27-year-old brought down Roberto Pereyra to concede a penalty, giving the Hornets a chance to pull the match back to 3-1 with 13 minutes to play.

Silva feels that already-booked Rojo should have been given his marching orders by referee Jon Moss to set up an even nervier finish, however, with the Red Devils eventually recovering with the score at 3-2 to come away with all three points.

Speaking after the match, the Portuguese is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "We scored the first goal from a penalty and for me in that moment it was a second yellow card for Marcos Rojo, with 11 against 10 it would be really difficult for them.

"We made it difficult for them because we scored the second goal. Imagine if it was 11 v 10 at that moment. We started to create more problems for them, but then one counter attack from them and we should do different in that moment.

"Tom [Cleverley] went to stop the counter-attack, at that moment we should do a tactical foul to stop [Jesse] Lingard because the game would continue to be open until the end if they didn't score the fourth."

Watford have now lost eight of their last nine meetings with United in the Premier League, conceding at least two goals on seven occasions.
