Former Derby and Leicester midfielder Robbie Savage is critical of Sir Alex Ferguson's autobiography.

Robbie Savage has slammed Sir Alex Ferguson's book for being "bang out of order" for some of its revelations.

The former Manchester United manager's memoirs went on sale to the public on Thursday, after creating some attention-grabbing headlines in the media.

Ferguson takes aim at a whole host of stars such as Roy Keane, David Beckham and Steven Gerrard, and Savage feels that the book did not need to be written.

"Godfather of a Manchester United dynasty or not, some of Sir Alex Ferguson's revelations in his new book are bang out of order," Savage told The Mirror. "Beckham is one of the finest sporting ambassadors England has ever produced. But, according to Fergie, marrying a Spice Girl stopped him becoming one of the greats – that's a back-handed compliment if ever I heard one.

"Roy Keane's immense performance in a Champions League semi-final against Juventus was the single biggest reason United won the Treble in 1999. It's sad that Sir Alex has chosen to make acerbic comments about one of his greatest captains.

"Apparently, Fergie reckons Gerrard is not in the top, top bracket of players. Nonsense – he has won the Champions League and was the best midfielder I ever faced in my career. Great manager. The greatest of them all – shame about the book."

Former United captain Keane accused Ferguson of being disloyal following the release, while Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers also criticised the Scot.
