Report: Luke Shaw baffled by Jose Mourinho's criticism of him

Luke Shaw is reportedly baffled by Jose Mourinho's apparent criticism of him after the Manchester United left-back declared himself unfit for last weekend's game.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has reportedly been left confused by Jose Mourinho's apparent criticism of him after the England international opted not to play at the weekend due to a knock.

The 21-year-old and defender Chris Smalling both ruled themselves out of Sunday's 3-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium as they did not feel fit enough to play.

When asked about the pair's withdrawals, Mourinho told reporters: "There is a difference between the brave, who want to be there at any cost, and the ones for whom a little pain can make a difference."

According to The Independent, Shaw, who is said to have suffered a knock to the leg that he broke last September, is baffled by Mourinho's comments.

England interim boss Gareth Southgate refused to be drawn on Mourinho's remarks after both players were left out of the international side for upcoming matches against Scotland and Spain.
