Police arrest nine people as a result of clashes between supporters during the Manchester derby yesterday afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that they made nine arrests during yesterday's Manchester derby.

It was a match that saw Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand struck by a coin thrown from a section of Manchester City supporters as he celebrated his side's late winner at the Etihad Stadium.

As it stands, the authorities have been unable to identify the culprit who caught the defender just below his eye.

However, they have charged nine people with offences which include a racially-aggravated public order and breach of a football banning order.

At the same fixture last season a total of 31 people were detained.
