Jose Mourinho: 'Manchester United unluckiest team in league'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho describes his side as "the unluckiest team in the Premier League".

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has described his side as "the unluckiest team in the Premier League" after they were held to a late draw by Arsenal at Old Trafford this afternoon.

In a game they had dominated, United were on course for all three points thanks to Juan Mata's opener, only for substitute Olivier Giroud to find an equaliser with one minute of normal remaining.

The result condemned Mourinho's men to their third straight home draw and left them sixth in the table ahead of the 3pm fixtures.

"At this moment, we are the unluckiest team in the Premier League - it's the reality," Mourinho told Sky Sports News afterwards. "If we analyse the last three matches at home: against Stoke we have to win five or six nil but we draw. Against Burnley we have to win five or six nil but we draw. And today we have to win two or three nil and we draw. So, I think we are the unluckiest team.

"I don't want to say they didn't want to win. I prefer to say they had no chances to win. They couldn't be Arsenal [in] the way they normally play.

"We were phenomenal from a defensive point of view. Phenomenal. The way we pressed, the way we controlled their counter-attacks, the way we controlled their best players. We were phenomenal. When we had the ball we payed well, we had chances to kill the game. The only time we had a situation we couldn't resolve they scored a goal. So, they were the lucky ones and we were the unlucky ones. That's football."

United next welcome Feyenoord to Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday, ahead of a home encounter with West Ham United next weekend.
