Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that he would not even think about resting Romelu Lukaku as he does not have a replacement for the Belgium international.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that he would not even think about resting the out-of-form Romelu Lukaku as he does not have a replacement for the Belgium international.

Lukaku drew another blank in United's 1-0 defeat to Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night, meaning that he has not scored for the Red Devils since the middle of September.

The centre-forward's run of United matches without a goal is eight, but Mourinho has joked that if he rested the 25-year-old then the only replacement would be his assistant manager Michael Carrick.

"Well against Juventus to give him a break, I don't think Carrick can play as a striker. Or we play with the players that we did or if we decide to give a rest to Lukaku, who plays as a striker? [Marcus] Rashford, then who plays as a winger?" Mourinho told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

"So in this moment we are not in the best moment to try to think about resting players or try to find solutions, the solution now is to play the players we have."

United will look to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Everton on Sunday afternoon.
