Jose Mourinho criticises desire of Manchester United players

Jose Mourinho accuses his Manchester United players of only playing at '30% of their potential' in Saturday's 1-1 home draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has criticised the desire shown by his players in their 1-1 home draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Red Devils were unable to build on three successive victories as they dropped yet more points at Old Trafford, conceding to a Joao Moutinho strike after Fred had opened his account for the club.

Mourinho had no complaints about the final score, which leaves United sixth in the table and already eight points adrift of Liverpool at the summit, and he did not pull any punches when it came to summing up the performance of his side.

"One team came as if their lives depended on it and one team was too relaxed," he said at his post-match press conference. "It's difficult to win matches when you're not there. This is something you learn when you're a kid in the academy.

"Unless you are against weak opponents, playing at 30% of your potential is not enough. We were not sharp enough, creative enough or intense enough defensively. It was a mental thing. I can't explain the difference in attitude."

Next up for United is a home match against Frank Lampard's Derby County on Tuesday evening in the third round of the EFL Cup.
